She's back in, and ready to rock n'roll! :)

I asked Thames Marine to arrange No Regrets re-commissioning a couple of weeks ago, and the work has been done in timely fashion, and includes:

Both engines fully serviced with new Oil, Filters, Impellers and Coolant, all Anodes replaced as required, and full checks to all through hull fittings and steering, the preparation and antifouling of her Hull, and a full Hull and topsides polish before being craned back in and river-tested.

£1400 all in!

Now for the hard bit: Bray Clubhouse.... :(

The plan is to leave her in for three years after this winter on shore Cuchy.

I'll do an annual oil change now, and the usual lubrication & checks, along with the usual ongoing cleaning, but that's all she's getting until the end of 2013!

Perhaps I'll check the impellers annually on second thoughts...!

Poor girl!!

That isnt the best maintenance regime.

Not really an issue for such a well constructed boat, do bear in mind I have no fragile Volvo engines or crusty old sterndrives involved.

You should try owning a quality vessel one day...

A good quality hull with poorly maintained running gear and engine is no better than a poor quality hull with a poorly maintained engine.

Its nice to have the confidence that your boat is reliable enough to get you home safely and for us that means ensuring she is serviced on schedule.

A whole host of new problems can reveal themselves in the three years between lift outs.

Just out of interest will your anodes last out three years? Ours had done 18 months and the stern drive anode wouldnt have lasted the year out.

My anodes have lasted 5years and still there. (Freshwater ones mind)
Have a maplin underwater camera and check them regularly.
You must be in a bad area?

Ours are fresh water anodes in fresh water and mainly used in fresh water (that was a mouthful!!)

The trim tab anodes where fine but we changed them anyway, however the stern drive anodes where none too clever and really needed changing.

Still i suppose it shows they are doing their job.

I'll clarify...

Firstly, both engines were serviced, including all fluids, filters and impellors. Shaft seals and through hull fittings checked, anodes, all over four years old replaced and steering gear checked.

Hull prepared and antifouled, then polished along with topsides, boat craned back into water and tested.

Polish £400, remainder under £1K.

Apollo, you never spent more than £400 because thats all your Mrs will allow you to spend in one go, and CeXy, I switched from sterndrives and vowed never to return to the nasty fragile things!
The engines will enjoy annual servicing, but nothings likely to happen underneath, apart from the slow onset of osmosis, which is inevitable, there is very little to maintain other than the power units in a Broom 30.

...Which is why I chose her! :)

Ah well each to their own, although we have found the outdrive to be anything but fragile. Maybe you had a bad un.

Just had a pleasant suprise with our bill from the marina which was waiting on the doormat when we got home. £1K for a full sterndrive service (including all seals, oils and anodes) lift out, chock ashore, relaunch, replace trim tab ram and wiring and a few canopy repairs. Much cheaper than expected.

I've had two boats with sterndrives and one without. All used on Thames and never had a problem with either. Loved the drives for Manoueverability in marina and lifting a leg to get in a shallow mooring was always welcome. I never found them nasty or fragile. All in my opinion of course.
