Hi All

I am sure there is an abundance of such threads, but I am looking for some specific advice for my boat.

I am replacing my bruce anchor with a 6kg Delta. It is going on my 27ft sports cruiser.

I need 6mm chain to fit the windlass, but my question is how much? And do I need rope too? The current set up is chain and rope, but its only about 4m of chain and the rest rope.

I would rather have all chain, but not sure if that is the done thing, or even why you have rope with chain. Appreciate this is quite a novice question, but I am one!!!

Anchoring will be for day cruising stops and the very occasional over nighter in 2017.

Where are you using the boat, what's the depth you intend anchoring in, what's the bottom like ?

There is a view from many experienced anchorers that a long heavy chain is better than a mixed chain/rope system. But that may not be convenient, or within your planned usage.

on our 28ft sportfisher I have 30m of 6mm chain, this is too short, I would place min 40m
when you have a winch, don't see the need to use rope with chain.

we use a long (>60m) rope and 10m chain on a auxiliary anker,
for anchoring on a wreck > 30m for diving.
