noseeme bites

Hold a lit cigarette just close enough to bite to cause discomfort but not burn.

Failing that Anthisan cream (Active ingredient Mepryamine maleate) works for me.

Here in Oz we have a product in liquid or cream from called 'Stingose"

I don't know if it an international product (I think it may be available in Britain) but it is brilliant on many insect bites from bee sting to jelly fish sting. A must in any first aid kit. till then keep on scratchin olewill

For me , Autan not only acts as a repellent but also eases the itching when forgotten. Use the stick form and lots .

You will find that each persons metabolism is different and so it might not work for you .

good luck

When we were last back in the Uk we bought some little green plastic gizmo from Boots the Chemist. Think they were called Zappa......anyway you put them over the bite, press the trigger 6 or 7 times and give yourself a tiny electric short which temporarily deadens the nerves and......no more itching. They really do work!
Until you can get some I recommend plain old vinegar, nasty smell though.

Re: No see \'ems

Unfortunately, they've discovered the magic of skin-so soft, and Avon are allegedly in the process of taking out the good bit and marketing it separately- no doubt for bigger bucks.
Don't throw out the old bottle if there's any left in it!

I've been meaning to ask how to stop the little [--word removed--] in the first place - mostly at night, just like the itching.

I've taken to spraying myself with Autan, (but a few whiffs and it nearly kills me, never mind the mozzies. I also spray the whole boat with whatever variety of mozzie spray I have at the time, and have recently found some of those spirally things that you light and they smoulder for 8 hours - only for use outdoors, but I stick one in a frying pan and some of the smoke wafts inside.

These 3 things have had a bit of an effect, and I havnt heard that high pitch bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! which only seems to happen when you're knackered and your head hits the pillow - no way I can sleep when I have heard it just waiting to pounce..... but still getting bitten quite regularly - perhaps it's part of the deal and unavoidable.

having said that, arent there some drugs which stop mozzies from wanting to bite you ... plaquenil comes to mind, (hydrochloroquines??).

Expedition 100 works for me. Contains a claimed 98% deet. Horse flies are the bain of my life. They seem to just keep attempting a landing until they succeed and devour or you kill 'em. After Expedition 100 I watched one literally bouncing off my arm. After half a dozen attempts, it gave up;- most rewarding.

Wasn't there some chappie up in Scotland who inventer a mozzie attracter loaded with some irresistble pherenomes? "Come inside and die".

I'd buy a dozen! One warning for Expecition 100;- it is an excellent skin-sandal adhesive.

The best remedy is time and building up a natural immunity...

Being a canuck,, I was exposed from childhood to millions of the little buggers, proper mossies as well, none of these nancy "midges" that we usually have in the uk...

Now the wife, who does not have my natural manly immunity,, is during the recent plague of the blighters, suffering considerably, and spends a hours or so every nite turning our bedroom into a scene not far removed from passechendale (From the mossies perspective) I on the other hand sink my tired head into the pillow, and when the little buzz reaches my ear, I think of my childhood and sleep the contented sleep only available to the innocent.....

failing that get something with shedloads of deet in it...

read this;

study which tells you how great deet is......
