Hi everyone,
Really seriously thinking about renting the house out and living on our Westerly Konsort (or upgrading to Westerly Seahawk) but wondered if anyone knows MDL marina that is live aboard friendly on south coast? We are currently in Northney Marina on Hayling Island and would like to stay in a marina as our base for year of live aboard. Or are there any other live aboard friendly marinas around the Solent?
Thanks for any posts.

There is a marina just inside Portsmouth Harbour that tolerates live-a-boards. Main thing is not to be obtrusive, keep your boat in a seaworthy condition, go to sea now and again. and don't let on, just let it happen. Some marinas view live-a-boards as enhanced security.

I think the only MDL marinas that officially allow liveaboards are the inland canal marinas. Most other marinas - both MDL and non-MDL - will turn a blind eye provided you make it easy for them to do so. Don't draw attention to yourself and they will not go out of their way to notice you! Probably best to have a PO Box address to receive incoming mail - having official papers addressed to you at Northney MDL marina is not keeping your head down!

Mail at southsea is not a problem I assure you!! Get in touch and I will show you round and introduce you to the staff. I've been here for four years but are off next year to points south!!

I was not so much thinking about the receiving end as I was about the originating end. If the local authority is unhappy about the idea of residents in a marina, listing yourself for benefits or anything else official as "Lucky Jim, Pontoon B, Berth 5, Northney Marina" is just going to attract attention.
