Hi all,
Although I live in the Midlands I currently do a fair bit of sailing on the South Coast, normally chartering from Gosport and generally sailing within the Solent and Portland areas.

I am looking at moving to Shropshire soon and it will make the N.Wales coast only about 1 1/2 hours away so I would like to find out about any sailing oppotunities there and what people's opinion is on the general sailing area....

Any advice will be gratefully received.

You are welcome to have a nosey through my webpages as we base our boat in North Wales.

I don't know what you are used to, but the sailing here once away from major harbours is very quiet and easy to escape to anchorages alone or anchor off a beach and whizz in by dinghy for a BBQ.

If you want to be part of a big yachting community this is not the place, not like the south coast.
 
As per woofy's post above the sailing here is terrific, even from a relative beginner's point of view. And much quieter than some of the more obvious parts of the south coast. (again only from my experience)

I think Woofy is based south of us around Portmadoc (hope to get down there this year) We are in the northern part of North Wales.

Nice site.

I remember you posting photographs of your boat with the house behind but had always thought you were down south somewhere, don't know why. I had never realised you were in Deganwy Quay.

How is the new marina, isn't it the most expensive in the area? Next time I am that way I will sail in as a visitor and knock on your front door with a bottle of wine. BTW we have no problems with any food types /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We are in Pwllheli, Porthmadog was my first choice but I could not get insurance to remain afloat over winter. If you come around past Bardsey give a shout on the radio we are always about at weekends unless its cold and miserable!
 
The new Marina is fine. Not sure if it is the most expensive as I have not priced any of the others. So far everything has gone well and the staff are extremely helpful. I can get the boat in and out, and it's safe and sound, so I am not complaining.

I did hear a rumour that the Marina had been "allegedly" sold on, by the developers, but we are not expecting to many changes as it is not quite full.

When you plan to be up here give me a bit of advanced warning and you are more then welcome to some Kent hospitality.

We have some friends holidaying in Portmadoc around second week in August so I would love to make the trip if I can get a crew. My missus has her leg in plaster at the moment so plans for the summer are a little fluid.
