there is handbook just on the swellies which is produced by someone local which i heartily reccomend
try the north wales cruising club
ill ava loook tonight but methinks it is in north wales. the book that is, wales, as is the NWCC.
I quite like the The Lundy and Irish Sea Pilot by David Taylor, who sail(ed) from Porthmadog so knows the area well.
The best passage details for the swellies IMO comes from the HM at Caernarfon, but the webpage seems to be down, so I have uploaded some relevant pdfs to the following..
For Pwllheli go the Hafan Pwllheli website and download the handbook, they are also available in paper in the reception, some excellent contact info and basic pilotage incl. tide tables
P.s. Aberystwyth is expensive, very expensive! Milford surcharge for cats and put you in a crap location. Porthmadog is a great stop, do the Ffestiniog railway and Portmerion. At Pwllheli, contact the HM and go on the wall, it is tremendously cheaper than the marina. At Caernarfon, stay on the river, rather than Victoria Dock, there are no facilities at the marina so you might as well stay under the castle and have a great view.
If you come this way give us a shout, be nice to open some vino and celebrate sailing horizontally!

I would appreciate any suggestions for a pilot book that covers North Wales - especially Pwllheli, Swellies and Holyhead area.

Swellies slack is 2 hours before HW Liverpool.
From Caernarfon towards Bangor, be slightly early rather than late.
From Bangor towards Caernarfon, be slightly later rather than early. Currents run fast & may not be stemmed if you are more than an hour off slack water. Pic below is only about an hour before slack, the ebb runs stronger quicker.
/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif It is a beatiful run - I love it!
