I was just relaxing after my massage....

Felt sorry for the ice cream man (opposite) he cleaned up last year in the sun took enough dosh for a sizeable deposit on a craft.

I know he was not lying as he drove up all the way from Gatwick!

Yes , what a very nice chap Richard Shead is. I reckon he gets too roughly treated on here ;)

Oh, an yer bargain bit of stainless leg etc

Chrome hactually, but a bargain nonetheless, would've cost me £50 at Dickies, only £25 at the show

Mmm, watching Liz trying to get out of a canoe came a close second!

Business Done...

This is a tricky one...

The concept of the show is good and the man behind it, Ben, really does have the interests of the Wales Marine Industry as first priority.

He is passionate about getting as many people out on the water or interested in boating as he possible can, its almost a one man mission!

BUT the first show was a good start, the second a cracker but sadly the third did not deliver as well for some although it did for others and sales were made.

The problem he faces is taking it to the next level, it will only ever be so big but it needs to grow from a weekend event in a field to a big weekend event in a field with all the trimmings (national press, PR etc) Don't get me wrong he does an excellent job with the people he has (himself and his partner) and he does make local radio etc but he needs more to attract folk to the venue. Having it the same weekend as the jumble did not help.

I can honestly say I met an awful lot of boaters, all of which were PBO or MBM readers and they came from a very long way, lots from Liverpool as well which is his next problem.

I like the event but the weather killed two days and I firmly beleive the jumble did not help the third.

Will it contiue? I would like to think so, bizarrely I met loads of sailors but there are no sail boats, he delivered the custmores but I am led to believe the sailboat manufactures did not want to come so no sailboats for them to look at.

I hope it continues as I fancy another three nights at the Bulls Head....:D

Has he considered speaking with the jumble organisers with a view to making it a joint event?

I presume you mean the show rather than the place! What time of year is the Liverpool show planned for?

I hope it continues as I fancy another three nights at the Bulls Head....:D

Nice to see you have your priorities sorted. :)

Sorry yes the show...

Its April / May next year and will be big, so big I can see why anyone from Liverpool would come to a small event miles up the road a few months later.

The Bulls Head.....THE best hotel outside of London without question and I have stayed in a few!

but he needs more to attract folk to the venue.

You can tell I work with retailers as I am an advocate of the pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap school.

I am sure Ben is a very nice chap but to build any annual event you need exhibitors/sellers to attract the people and you need the people to attract the exhibitor/sellers.

Most of the people I spoke to in Dinorwic, remember last years dismal event and the high entry fee demanded to walk around a few boats and a large number of tat stalls and fairground type stalls, which cost more money.

Dickies had two boats and even forgot to bring the leaflets and brochures last year as they seemed to be there as some kind of favour.

Get the people in and the trade will flock there and to guarantee the people they need to make sure it is attractively priced.

Why go to all the bother of leaving £2 off vouchers at Morrisons in Caernarfon when it would be easier just to charge £5 in the first place? Or even better, charge £2 for the next couple of years.

Once you have built it up, you can charge what you like.

Then there is their website. The yardstick for any consumer website is to make it acceptable to be viewed at your place of work. The boatshow site has a radio show, which is loud and intrusive and guaranteed to make anyone at work viewing the site to close the browser instantly, which is not good when you want people to visit the site.

Even if you hit the mute button provided, the music and commentary comes back as soon as you click on another page. At the very least the sound should stay muted once the viewer has clicked the mute option.

Mmm, looks like it'll struggle even more next year with the competition from the Liverpool show. Doesn't look good does it.

That would've been a better idea.
