Hi Folks,

Our summer cruise will be North France between Gravelines and Le Havre. We are a bit old fashioned and use paper charts and GPS, maybe chart plotter next year, but I really enjoy charts and a bit of nav. I would like any advice on which charts are good for this part of the coast.

Many thanks

Robert

Ps usually use Imray

None of the usual British chart publishers do folios for the area east of the Carentan peninsula so you'll have to go for individual charts. They all do general channel charts but for the most detailed coverage Admiralty are the best bet. It all depends on whether you are happy to work with an area chart and an almanac/pilot or if you like to have large-scale harbour charts.

I have no experience of French charts but you may well find you are better served by buying them at your first port of call.

Am with you re liking my pencil and paper.

Alway use the French SHOM when over there, much better in detail than Imray and Admiralty use the details from the French anyway.

I have some charts of coast from Fecamp westwards which I'm looking to sell for any reasonable offer as I am heading to Med and unlikely to need in foreseeable future. Will look through charts tomorrow and let you know what I have.
