I thought I was ready to start making new standing rigging, but I have just realised that the drum of wire which arrived from S3i today is RH laid while the existing wire is LH laid. I shall be re-using Norseman fittings (with new cones). I have been looking for instructions on assembling these and found this from Practical Sailor:

It also makes the terminal easier to use with right-laid wire, which can be accidentally unwound with Norseman terminals (though not with Hi-Mod).

and this from Sail magazine

Also, be sure you are using wire with a left-hand lay.
Should I try to find LH laid wire?

From the Sta-Lok website;

From the horse's mouth so to speak.

Sta-Lok are different because they have a separate cup former which avoids twisting the end of the wire. The warnings about RH laid wire all seem to apply to Norseman only. I don't understand Picture 7 in the Norseman instructions, but I wonder if it is possible to avoid a problem by holding the terminal and turning the sleeve for RH wire.
