No doubt this has already been posted here, from 1st June the Nore Swatchway is closed for navigaition.

Latest update: Over the weekend near the cable laying operation at low water, the spoil removed from the trench is alongside the trench thats been excavated and sits about 2m ABOVE the low water mark. The area is closed for navigation, if you stray off course you'll soon be told by the dredging crew or find out as you hit the mud!

I came out of the Medway and up the Thames last Thursday - they have a guard ship (if a tug can look bored and disinterested, this one does) and going round it doesn't put you much off the usual course. The piles of mud are on the very shallow bit of Grain Edge that you woulndt really use anyway. It feels a bit odd that the Nore Swatch buoy isnt there - feels like you've arranged to meet an old friend and they don't turn up. The various barges, jack-up rigs etc they have up on the mud is extraordinary.

A friend I know passed near the excavations Monday, Like him I cut across the grain edge before changing course before the Swatchway it's a route we often use for Chapman sands!
