Non-starting Yanmar 2YM15 - Now sorted and added trip pics.

Sat on my mooring at Abersoch, was looking forward to a long weekend sailing and the sodding engine won't start. Solenoid clicks but starter doesn't turn. Plenty of power in the batteries, one is brand new and have borrowed 2 from someone else to test.
Anyone have any suggestions before I try to get someone out to have a look? Have tried knocking the starter whilst the key is turned in case it's jammed but no joy.
Engine is fairly new with 56 hours on it.

Check that the heavy wires on the solenoid are making good connections .

If the motor is seized or jammed the lights will dim ( and the system volts fall) when you try to start. If that is not happening maybe the the solenoid contacts are bad or maybe the brushes are bad or the commutator dirty.

Bad earthing of the motor to the engine ????

Thanks for that, am trying to download it now. Lights do not dim when the key is turned. There is 12v on the input of the solenoid, and 12v on the output when the key is turned. Access is too tight to find the connection onto the starter and try to connect it directly with jump leads. Tools are somewhat limited on-board - a leatherman wave and a pair of mole grips

Just about to give up and go home No phone call back from the local engineer and I've got no further in the fault finding.

Now sorted Starter motor rebuilt onboard by a local chap. Top service and very good price.

As a follow up - had a great little trip from Abersoch to Porthmadog, anchored off Criccieth for a snooze in the afternoon and stayed in Porthmadog Harbour for the night. Headed back to Abersoch into a strong headwind on Monday afternoon. Toby, my 11 year old son took a dunk in the water when we got back after insisting he didn't need any help climbing from the dinghy to the boat

Bloody starter motor problems again!!! Buggered up my weekend sailing plans, so I've just ordered 2. One to fit and one as a spare. I'll not be caught out again!!!
