thanks for advice re glow plugs now got one but still doesnt work getting desperate
have cleaned fuel filters fuel pump lines bled sytrem as previous years no life. batteries good does turns over but no start any advice welcome PLEASE

start with the obvious. is the stop control in? is the stop control lever on the engine in the right position? are the decompressors fully closed? is there diesel all the way to the injectors. crack the unions and check that they're squirting as the engine turns over. if you have fuel and compression, the engine will stat as long as teh timing is correct.

Have you checked that electricity is getting to the glow plugs? I've got similar symptoms at the moment. I found that the ignition swtich wasn't sending power to the relay switch for the glow plugs. Hopefully a new ignition switch at the weekend will fix it!

Use a hot air gun on the air intake (without the air filter) after you've gone through the basics. Will start if it's going to run at all.

I assume that you have eliminated the air in fuel lines up to the injector nuts. If this is ok then you will need to check compression. Have you taken off the rocker cover and checked valve springs and valves actually move. A broken valve spring might be the cause of non firing, also stuck or broken piston rings ( loss of compression). Try a little engine oil into the bores throught the Glow plug orifice, but I would seek professional help if these actions are beyond you.
You could also try "easystart" but make sure it contains an upper cylinder lubricant as pure ether will dilute the oil and can if used to excess ruin the engine. If it runs on this and does not pick up on diesel then you still have a fuel injection problem. You will then have to think about having the injectors serviced.

I have just had to get new piston rings as my 2002 didn't start. Starts within a couple of turns now. Starting got progressively worse over the last couple of years and I had some black smoke from the exhaust last season.

You can get a compression test carried out to see if this is the problem.
