I've just built a set of steps to make getting on and off harlequin a bit easier, but SWMBO insists I have some sort of non slip on the steps. Treadmaster is very expensive.

I have seen some non-slip tape which doesn't look bad, price or some anti-slip granules.

Any suggestions on which might be best? The steps are softwood so I'm worried the the granules will just get pushed into the wood and it will loose the non-slip properties.

The granules will be embedded in the paint, or you could get some non-slip floor paint which is likely to be a lot cheaper than a marine product (it has sand in it)

Non-slip tape is good - the kind that stair treads are often trimmed with. Again you could get it locally instead of from a swindlery.

I have used both the tape and washed sand in marine paint. Both work well but the tape is easier to apply and grips better. Both need to be replaced after a few years. I have found the best tape to be the white stuff about 30mm wide bought from a hardware store.

Have you thought to ask a local yard if they have any offcuts of Trakmark or whatever?

We got a piece for our caravan steps many years ago, cost nothing.

No, I didn't. In the end I managed to pick up a few meters of self adhesive stuff off ebay for a tenner.
