Non EU imports

Evening all, anyone imported from non EU countries? Just wondering if more complicated/risky. Thinking Turkey in particular. Ta in advance.
 
Don't know about Turkey but I've brought a couple of boats over from the states & it's fairly straightforward usual import issues to deal with customs & vat I just used an agent who did everything & told me what to pay
The boat then had to be CE marked retrospectively which was done easily & quite cheaply by CE proof
All in all I saved a small fortune on both boats obviously you have to check what the process is going to cost but if the figures stack up on a boat you want then importing is no problem
What boat are you looking at ?

If it's a European boat then hopefully it should be ce marked. If it isn't it should be a relatively straightforward task to get it done.

If importing from outside the EU you have to pay VAT and Import Duty on the invoice amount. I've done this before and its a very simple process. If I remember correctly import duty for boats is 1.9%, so the tax due would be 21.9% of the invoice price.

From Turkey if delivery is on its own bottom if you can make you first EU stop Malta you can pay tax there at a lower rate as its in the EU

It would be fun. You are certainly wise to look in the euro zone though. There are some cheap biats in croatia/Italy/Greece regions which will be more straightforward. I know of an Antares 12 for under £100k for example...
