Go for it I recently bought the same model in Aldi for 49.99 much better than my earlier Lexmark, the cartridges are not too expensive either.

Check the cost and amount of ink you get with a Brother printer, must be the best value around.

We use Brother printers for the business and find them very reliable and cost effective.

I bought a Brother DCP 110C..their basic all in one..about three years ago for not very much £69 I think from Tesco.

Plusses..its very quiet and prints nicely. Minuses..it doesn't sometimes recognise a new ink cartridge, and the menus are not that intuitive. Not quite annoying enough to chuck it out, but at times I have felt like it when i have to use bits of card jammed in with the ink cartridge to make the machine recognise the new one /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Now discovered that it's no great bargain. Same price as PC World although there would be some satisfaction to be gained from not going th PC world. At 49.99 it would have been a good buy. I have no use for the fax capability so on that score it would be a bit of an overkill.

It doesn't say which model it is and there were several similar ones from Lexmark. We have one I think it is Model 8350 that looks like the one on offer but bought ours on a special offer in Makro about £50 18 months ago, it was then cheaper than the mid price version they also sold.

I find it excellent in all areas. The plain paper fax is good, pages can be loaded from a feeder or manually and held in memory before dialling and sending. The scan feature is good and can be used to scan into pdf files and pdf can be converted into MS Word. It prints very well in colour and B&W and apart from telling you on screen the ink level is low when it will actually carry on for ages longer, isn't too costly to run, bearing in mind all printer makers seem to give the hardware away in order to sell you ink cartridges. The copier is also good, colour or B&W and this like the fax is standalone and doesn't need the computer to work. You can also print directly (standalone) from photo cartridges although in our case we do it via the computer anyway because the pics are stored there.

I'd buy another, but from a dealer like PC World, Staples or maybe Argos rather than a grocers!

Before I buy printers I price up the ink carts ( these can often cost more than the printer). I have been pleased with our 2 canon printers and compatible carts are around £1.50 each but some of the newer canons have chipped carts /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Does anyone still fax anyway??

I still get drawings faxed from customers albeit more rarely these days but the Office of National Statistics monthly returns go back that way because they give you only a few days to do them, most of which is taken up by Royal Snail delivering the form.

You don't need to fax but the all in ones do make good photocopiers with no need to turn on the PC. As said check the price of the cartridges as I get the feeling the printers are a loss leader, more profit in the consumables.
