Just had a roofer round to install a velux skylight, but after taking tiles off etc seems that there isn't the space he expected, so tiles back and off we hunt. I am looking for a fairly small opening roof/skylight (400 x 400 or less). Any ideas?

Presume you are trying to install a 600mm Velux? Why not just remove a section of rafter and suitably brace the cut rafter top and bottom and install the 600 Velux?? Much as you would if putting a 900 or 1200 Velux in a conventional roof.

Or have I missed the point???

Try these people: http://www.loftshop.com/products.asp?catID=1

Look for "skylights" rather than roof windows. I'm sure they used to have some nice small ones.

Unfortunately, if you click "skylight" from that page you get an error, so you probably need to contact them to point out their website is broken and ask what they have.

I bought a roof window from them years ago and they were very cheap and fast.

more details ..

Thanks for the replies so far ... More detail ... Its a pitch roof, I would like light and air ...the internal measurements suggested being able to install a velux 550 x 700 centre pivot job ...now looks more like 400 width max.

thanks all

Madhatter - am on my blackberry at the moment so haven't had chance to check the various links out yet, but will do and hopefully find the right bit of kit. You askl "why only 400?" And the answer is that now the tiles have been taken off (and now put back again ... With an embarrassed roofer in tow ..) It seems 400 width is all that will go. This is for a guest bedroom's ensuite shower room so should be adequate, as long as I can find something of that size that will open. Thanks again.
