Apologies its non boaty and possibly should be in the lounge, but if it offends anyone please delete...

Got a motorbike of mine in this march edition of performance bikes magazine. Was really quite chuffed as its been another labour of love/hate over the years as its tried to simultaneously kill/scare me stupid....

I know theres a fair few bikers on here, so just wanted to share. The passion that goes in to. Them is very similar to how people treat there boats etc etc...
Anyway, got a great write up, so i was chuffed.

doesn't offend me, looks a proper bit of kit, what hp do you reckon its producing?

been a bike fan for years (don't own one).big MotoGP fan for obvious reasons... Was taken round Donnington by Ron Haslam for a few quick pillion laps, that was nice.... :ambivalence:

Its about 155bhp, just shy of 100ft lb of torque. Its the way it makes its power that is amazing.
By modern standards should be left for dust, but its not. 160kg helps :)

indeed!

like everyone else in the UK, just read Guy Martins book. His plan for 500hp, (just because it sounded a nice round figure), for his diy project made me laugh...

Hes just up the road to me. Possibly trying to get him to take the bike around cadwell park.
500 hp is not doable on an old school engine like this. Bearing in mind its pretty much air cooled. ( radiator is actually an oil cooler) even with forced induction.
They dont make the revs to get much more power out. Design first came to production around 85 or 86.
My rpm limit is set for 10k, which should stop a rod throwing itself through the front. Its run out of steam by then anyway :)

A proper post, love it, my race bike of 3 years ago which was a Ducati 749 was in Performance Bikes Mag so know how you feel, Spondon frame is lovely

Best
Paul

Great feeling, all the hard work paying off.
I have a tweaked gsxr1000 that it runs rings around. Rupert (ex pb editor) reccons its the best 'special' hes ridden ;)
Suspension is world super bike spec Ohlins. Stunning stuff..

Those are impressive figures and a lovely bike, well done, and I empathise when you say love hate relationship. I restore old bangers. This was the last...

LOL. I used to have shineybike syndrome until the gulls discovered my boat. These days all my cleaning addictions are satiated trying to keep up with them.

Beautiful build Rob in the long traditions of cafe racers; less is more.:)
....my cafe racer was a Triton 350ta, not quite as fast as yours by the look of it.

Lovely bikes RB in the day. Modern version are generally parts bin specials. Shame mine is now only going to get rarer. Spondon engineering is now a housing estate and the jigs were all crushed.
Build blog would be entertaining, as some proper schoolboy errors were made in its construction. By me as well, but Spondon Engr too.

Gave up riding years ago for self preservation reasons but am also a big Moto GP fan.
I find boating gives me the same kick that I got when I was a biker.

I recently changed to BT Broadband as I could not go through another year without
full qualifying and race coverage.

I have been to the Barcelona race meeting for the past 2 years and am booked again for this year. I also went to Brno last year.

its off topic, but since this thread is so far away from anything boaty, what the hell

my little project, bought a very scrappy Austin 7 special August last year, hand painted and very used and abused... restoration started September, my aim was to finish by Christmas... finished on Christmas eve... a lot of late nights (early mornings...). Only thing I didn't do myself was the seats,

Aye. It's been a long standing ambition of mine to do similar. However the car in question in an Alpha Romeo Junior GT. My first car and I wrote it off in a fortnight. Plagued me ever since.

Corrected that for you ;) (lifelong Alfa fan so it's a pet hate):encouragement: Great looking builds guys, very impressive. If you do re-build the GT Jr Bruce please take loads of pics and blog it, it's car porn to me .:encouragement:
