We're off to Sweden tomorrow for a week of sea kayaking and back to basics camping.

Bad news (in addition to the weather outlook) is that Jos's old ipod has started playing up.

Its screen lights up when switched on, but the menus do not show. Music will play, but you don't know in advance what you're going to listen to.

Are there simple resucitation tricks that are worth trying?

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, which I've now just tried - sadly with no result.

Having had a bit more of a play, it's an intermittent fault.

Usually when it's switched on, the screen lights up but no menus or anything show.

Sometimes a couple of rows faint blue lines run down the screen.

And sometimes, it fires up, and operates, perfectly (unfortunately, only about one in five tries).

Anyway....Thanks again.

Ooh...just found a video on youtube showing how to replace the battery on an ipod nano(that's the one we've got).

Looks a bit fraught with possibilties for doing irreparable damage, even if you're only half as hamfisted as me.

A really great example of user friendly design...

It's a consumer disposable product - when it stops working, chuck it and buy a new one. An appalling philosophy, but sadly, the way of the world today. I abhor it, but that's the world we live in. :(
