Does anybody know of any on line instructions for dismantling these things (DC07 with brush bar control and Hepa Filter)

Suspect that the motor has developed some serious fault but not yet succeeded in getting it out. I can replace it a lot more cheaply than buying a new machine if only i can get at it. Even if I have to relpace one or two other bits at the same time. (already knew the brush bar needed replacing and have discovered that the "permanent after motor filter than does not need any attention" certainly does.

Yes yes yes I know how bad Dysons are and how they are the worst vacuum cleaners most of you have ever owned but until now ours has performed extremely well.
 
Have used this a couple of times now (SWMBO is very keen on hers ..). Have to say first time I couldn't believe it - call out and all spare parts required - whatever they are for £63.
Replaced motor (which had burnt out) - and at the same time replaced flex and recoiler (as these often go) - and a new hose as it had developed a kink - and threw in a new filter too !

Fixed charge service of £63.62 (inc VAT), fully inclusive of spare parts and labour (excluding accessories)
 
Coincidentally, three days ago I received an email from Dyson which I have copied below and which is self explanatory.

"Back to New

At Dyson, we do all we can to make sure our machines last as long as possible – for the guarantee and beyond. 15 years on, there are tens of thousands of our original DC01 vacuums still going strong.
If your machine is out of guarantee or maybe seen better days, a Dyson engineer can visit you at home or work to service it for £63.62, parts and labour included. They'll check all the main components, replace parts where necessary, electrically test it and get things working like new again.
You can book a service by calling 0800 298 0298
or by clicking here."

Seems a pretty good deal to me.

Looks like a good deal.

A new motor would cost me £40, brush bar £17 and Hepa after motor filter £21
Clutch if needed £17 and drive belt another £2. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Will now have to try and put what I have taken apart back together /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Anybody want to buy a Torx T15 screwdriver, new this morning, but will not be needed once this is sorted /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Provided I can get a Sebo no more than the cost of repairing the Dyson I'll get one!

I loved the feature that said; "can be used for carpet cleaning", on that page.

The Sebo only has a 1300W motor. Not ultra-powerful. My little Tesco-sourced baby cylinder that we use on board has a 1200W motor. It cost around £20, ISTR.

As for paying £63 for a vacuum cleaner service -- those are pre-crisis prices. It can't be real value for money. It might be 'worth it' for those who can afford it, but not value for money. I wonder how long it will take for the real value of money to sink-in, in debt-ridden Britain. You could live comfortably for a month on £63, in many parts of the world.
 
When I stripped ours I found everything was an interference fit and the fixings were really superfluous.

You just have to use considerable force and distort the mouldings. It comes apart as you'd expect and goes together again with no apparent ill-effects.

I'd second their effectiveness and longevity - ours is nearly 18 years old (one of the original DC01s) and has had about 3 major components replaced (but not the motor).
 
I youtubed my way thru fixing mine. Apart from the crucial bit where it plain refused to come apart.

I found a video that said "How to remove the doohicky on the thingamebob"..

At the crucial moment the technician cut away then came back saying "well, that was tricky, so we turned the camera off".

You can probably imagine the comments section.
 
After 10 years of excellent service I had to replace one small part on our Dyson, (SWMBO dropped our Dyson down the stairs)
It took a bit of time to work out how to pull it apart, but after a couple of hours of studying it I found a method, replaced the part got it back together, that was two years ago still working fine.
Our expérience of various other makes (Electrolux, Hoover etc.) have not been good, average lifespan 5 years or so.

Maybe, but not in the UK. In the UK it'll buy a repair that gives a new lease of life to a vacuum cleaner for around 1/3 the price of a new one, which seems like a good idea to me. I know you can get cheaper ones - I got Milady one when our Dyson turned up its toes. She's just about forgiven, but definitely hasn't forgotten...

Besides, even if you pay the same price as a repair for a new one, the repair is still better for the planet.
 
I see its a thread I started back in prehistoric times.

I contacted Dyson service , who were doing a cut price deal at the time.

The value of the parts replaced exceeded the cost of the service . So all in all a happy bunny

I have had it serviced several times since ............ important to get the "permanent filter" changed regularly or the motor is likely to overheat . It is possible to DIY once you discover how to get it out but Dyson renew all the other worn parts as part of the service.

Beware of the impostors pretending to be Dyson ( I got caught once!) Their service charge is low but you pay for all the parts and you pay over the top for non genuine parts. The Dyson man had a good laugh when I showed him the invoice.
If anyone phones its not Dyson .

Now have one of the cordless V8 Dysons ( Xmas present) plus an extra tools package .... Seldom use the big one now
