Last year we bought the boat with a VERY noisy Jabsco water pump. After investigating we found it was mounted on a loose peice of wood which vibrated against the hull.

I've now re-positioned it on a solid bulkhead exactly as per the manufacturers instructions, but it still makes a noise like a pneumatic drill (albeit slightly muffled), guarateed to disturb the neighbours on a quiet morning. Otherwise it works perfectly.

The manufacturers description calls this pump 'quiet' ! So I'm wondering if my definition of quiet is different to theirs.

Does anyone else have any experience with this pump, is this normal or is there something wrong with it.

Thanks
Neil

I think that's what I've got. I wouldn't call it noisy but it isn't quiet. Wouldn't wake the neighbours but would wake me in time for early morning cuppa. I should be so lucky /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Same here I would not call it quite. Sometimes when I have let the tanks run dry the pump continues to run. So I am glad that I can hear it and remind me to fill the tanks.

I ended up with mine mounted on rubber buffer feet on a wooden board, which is then stuck to the hull side with a thick layer of silicone. Then I had to stop any bit of hose from vibrating against structure. It's a lot quieter now.

Hi Shamal,
At last, a question I can answer.!
I'm nowhere near my boat right now so cannot quote the make of fresh-water filter that I have under my galley sink, but I cleaned out my water tank in the keel & changed the filter & dutifully screwed the new filter onto the fixed top fitting until the marks lined up correctly.
The noise was horrendous, reverberating throughout the whole boat. I started dismantling pipework under the cabin sole thinking the pump had sucked up some dirt from the tank, which took me several hours, (the filter on the Par Max 3 was clean) I eventually tried screwing the new filter right past the two marks-as far as it would go- & that fixed the problem. Damn thing had been sucking in air for a few days. Very quiet now, as it had been from new.

well at least your is working.. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I sent mine back for service to Jabsco and got it back after £70+ were spent on it. Fitted it and it still did not work. Not impressed.
