Anyone found a solution? Just had a poor nights kip due to fender board banging and scraping on the pier timbers.

Trouble is that with a large tidal range if you get up and tighten the lines it only stops the movement for a while then if you sleep too long into the ebb without slackening the lines again you could end up hanging up the wall. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I also sleep lightly when aboard.

Only suggestion I have is to leave lines slack but weighted to take up slack, and then to de-sensitise your nerves with one more drink than you ought to.

Beer or wine is ok but the Peat monster Fingers are a once in a lifetime experience (for me anyway) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I wandered into the Ship Aground for a few beers last night ,they had a roaring fire in the grate as the beads of sweat started dripping into my beer i remembered I still had my thermals on and was slowly melting like one of Bob Es peat monster fingers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

The weighted lines idea could work. I suppose the anchors or chain is about the only thing aboard suitable. Or find a suitable lump of rock. Will definitely try that next time, and the extra beer tip /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Peat Monster is a very peaty whisky that Bob e likes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifThe fingers are fingers of kit kat snapped off so the whisky soaks in to the biscuit bit. A rare delicacy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the bucket idea but with our tides you need a lot of slack so the bucket would end up floating unless you filled it with sand or rocks.Definitely will be experimenting next time.Sleep is precious /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Drop a kedge a couple of boat lengths or so off your beam and use that to hold you off the piles - adjust your warps at LW and the kedge should pull you off the wall as the tide rises ? It's also hard to tell from the photo if you have springs correctly rigged; that would reduce movement against the piles quite a bit I would think.

Long. heavy head and stern warps and springs. Alternatively, only visit on spring tides - should see you aground at midnight and afloat again at 6.00 am!

The fishing boat just ahead of you looks a bit of a lump. Any problem getting against the wall as the locals are not always that keen?

Hi Don No problems at all one of the fishermen even got his wife to show me where the fender boards were hiding. With the marina in Watchet now I would think that Minehead probably gets less visitors than previously.

A large Catamaran fishing boat came in and asked if he could dry out where I was as his boat was being inspected (I did see a surveyor poking about later )and he couldnt get back to move it off the steps at the start of the next tide. I was quite happy to comply as he was polite and had a genuine reason. Also gave me an excuse to be on the steps for the day until the tide came back.

I think in future I may try a dodge I once saw someone else use.Tie all the sausage shape fenders together in a long string to cover most of the side of the boat then dont use a board so theres less bumping and scraping noises.

I thin k that no matter how long your lines are when the tide starts pushing you up the wall and the wind is pushing you the other way a certain amount of movement is unavoidable.

PS not the first uncomfortable night Ive had in minehead ...
