Is it normal for the Eberspacher to sound like an Action Man Jet Fighter - on our jetty there are two of us with Ebers that in conparrison to the Webasto heaters are pretty noisey. If it is then is there any way of reducing the volume?

Are you sure?
The one concern I have over my Webasto is embarrassment over the noise from the exhaust.
If you are right and the Eber is noisier I will feel smug as well as snug.

When we changed boat last time we went from Eber to Webasto. I was amazed how much quiter the Webasto exhaust was, despite being significantly higher output. Inside the boat, we didn't really notice any difference in noise.

I mess about with heaters 'in my shed' when testing ebers on the bench I use whatever exhaust is to hand and have done a bit of experimentation. There is quite a difference in noise depending on length of pipe/ smooth versus flexible etc. However fitting a silencer will make a big difference and probably lagging the pipe.
The ebber itself can be quite noisy when on high power but insulation should cure this.

ours is really quite........poxy thing has broken!!!
think it needs a new motor /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. another job for the list.

Mitch,
If your sure its the actual heater and not a power/fuel problem you might consider buying an EBay unit.
Depending on the model you can get a unit without pump and timer for about £100/120 (D1and D2s) cheaper than buying/fitting new bits and yo have your old one for other spares.
Regards Peter

Hmm, not sure about Mikuni. Mine sounds like a 747 on take-off, and that is inside the boat. It is quite a relief when it switches off.

No great science to these lumps, fuel is pumped in, a glowplug ignites it and a fan pushes air into a combustion chamber. The same fan pushes air over the hot fins around the chamber and into the duct system for the boat.

Not surprising it sounds like a jet engine, pretty close to one i reckon.
