I've just fitted an ICOM M601 DSC VHF. Problem is that I've got a noise signal being transmitted on the "lower" channel number (6 is bad, 72 is almost clear). The sound is a clear tone that increases in pitch as the PTT is held down. I've switched all other electrical kit and shorepower off - but still the problem. I've then provided a completely independent 12v supply to the radio - still the same problem.

Anybody out there who has suffered the same problem before and fixed it?

TIA

I agree you need to move the boat to see if it is something local, and then swap out to the emergency antenna to eliminate that from the enquiries.
Then:-
Try PM-ing Jon Brooks . He is the ICOM bloke around here, and jolly helpful too.

If you are hearing noise with the PTT switch pressed, there is something wrong with the set - regardless of where you are.

Am I right in suspecting that your are listening to the transmissions using a handheld, or a second fixed set, while transmitting on the new Icom? If so, it is quite probable that there is nothing wrong at all.....if you listen to a transmission on a nearby set then you usually get speaker howl due to feedback. Try getting someone to take the handheld well out of 'hearing' distance from the Icom's microphone, and try again.
