I would love to do a long weekend's charter around the Farne Islands, Holy Island, Beadnell, Seahouses, Craster area (Northumberland). Alas I can find no boat Charter to be had. The Brokers at Amble marina say there is nothing between Hartlepool and the West Coast of Scotland. Can this be right? Would anyone like to rent their boat or perhaps an exchange for a weekend?

Afraid that is likely to be true. Looked at Scottish Yacht Charterers Assoc. site and their members are all on the W.Coast.
Good luck with your search.

Ah well, that didn't take long for me to be wrong again!!!!

There are very few charter companies outside the main centres in the UK (Solent, SW Coast, Thames Estuary, the Clyde & W of Scotland). Those that do set up out of the way don't seem to thrive.

It's virtually impossible for the average boat owner to hire out his boat legally. They have to be coded and getting the work done to retrofit that can cost up to about £10K.

I think Sailing North East charter the Black Diamond out of Hartlepool.

DT4134, That's why i suggested a yacht swop for a weekend, obviously this would have various criteria to fullfill too.

Elton, Hartlepool is to far South (approx 90 miles from the farnes) Amble or Berwick would be closest but thanks anyway.

I can't help on that one myself. As an alternative to a yacht swap you could maybe also see via a local club if anyone in the area wants crew.

Well that's progress for you. Back in the bad old days lot's of people offered their boats for charter to defray expenses but the requirement to have charter boats coded has put a stop to this so it woulde be illegal as I understand it to 'hire' a boat. There used to be a sailing school somewhere in the North East that did charter so checking out schools may help.
