Just as the Railway Act sneakily manages to include leisure boating in its drink limit section, so I gather are boats included in the "no smoking in vehicles with children on board" legislation for England.
Ah well, back to burning tarry rope to tell which way the zephyr is puffing, though that is probably more carcinogenic than tobacco.

I'd like to see them try to enforce it! How many people on mobile phones whilst driving get away with it?
Another stupid idea from the PC brigade.

Being an ex smoker and a hypocrite I'm now more anti-smoking than most. However I see this as a way of demonising rather than educating, the only reason this is easily enforced in cars is because with a number plate you can be traced and hit where it hurts ie your wallet and/or the risk of losing your licence. If parents smoke in cars in front of their children, they probably smoke in their houses, is this any better? As to smoking on boats, unless someone goes down below in ours they won't be able to see anyway!

As a smoker, its kind of fun all this regulation about hiding cigarettes and cigar's. Local shops normally do not bother close the shutters.

Normally supermarkets do that means when they do not have our brand you have to think of another or guess!

It also means that when you want to buy some cigars for a special occasion they should not show you whats available. Its like being 16 again trying to get drink in an off-licence.

Certainly for the underage smokers its not going to help. I cannot help think that given the dangers in the world the risk to others of smoking is being overplayed.

Thinking about proportions:

Look at the things done to reduce traffic casualties. All sorts af speed limits, humps, bumps, rules & regulations, training & certificates. 1754 casualties in UK traffic in 2012

Smoking killed 81.400 persons (2009). That's 46 times more, but fighting that doesn't get 46 times the attention or resources. :ambivalence:

not at all. second hand or environmental smoke is a risk of cardiovascular disease. many of the emerging risks of nanomaterials are associated with the physical (smokelike) characteristics

So you have given up on your car, BBQ's, smoked food and Deep fat fried foods as well?
I believe there are all sources of this stuff as well...

I do believe there are other bigger dangers out there that could be dealt with, as for smoking on boats clearly down wind is good enough for me. Unless there is very little wind then I want to see which way the smoke is blowing to set the sails :D

If this is English law, can I fly my Scottish ensign as a visitor to English waters and following the laws of my country, and smoke?

ps i don't smoke and don't understand why anyone would.

While I'm all for discouraging people from smoking, the idea off passing unenforceable laws makes me despair of our politicians.
