No Raw Water Strainer - Trapper 500 Nanni 2.14

I bought a 1976 Trapper 500 this year - Oystercatcher. It is fitted with a 2009 Nanni 2.14 engine and sail drive.

There is no raw water strainer fitted between the raw water inlet valve on the sail drive (see image) and the raw water pump. I have a new raw water strainer ready to fit, but before I do so, I'd like to know of there is any good reason why there is no raw water strainer fitted before I fit it?

Any thoughts, advice would be appreciated.

I can't think of any reason not to have a strainer, and if you've ever cleaned out a heat exchanger you'll know at least one good reason why you should have one.

No good reason. There should be a strainer between the inlet valve and water pump.

Thanks, my thoughts as well. Just need to find somewhere to mount it!
