No-one out yesterday!

We went out for a nice motor yesterday from Eastbourne. As we were locking out we saw a Westerley locking in (come to visit Eastbourne, not a Berth-holder) and as we were locking back in we shared the lock with a fishing boat. No-one else was out and it was good fun with a bit of swell and a lot of wind (thus no sails up).

Sometimes the most unpromising-looking days can be great fun.

Did anyone else venture out?

Have a look on the MoBo forum. There were a few playing in the Straits too.

I was out Thursday & very pleasant it was too. I am still "laid-up afloat" so no sails or dodgers set, but I have just relocated to my summer mooring so sails will follow shortly.

I'm based at Sovereign Harbour too and didn't go out until about 2pm as was doing some work on the boat in the morning.

Hadn't planned to go out but weather seemed to good not to and had quite an enjoyable sail. With clocks going forward meant I could stay out a bit later too!!

Must have just missed you, we went out on the 2:30 lock (or it might have been 3:30, can't quite remember with the clock change). We had some fun on the way to the lock as they were doing free flow and there were some very odd eddies as we motored under the north bridge. Still it was definitely worth going out and I was just surprised more people didn't make the most of a non-rainy Saturday and have a sail or motor!

A lot of people stayed at home on the strength of the forecast ... which turned out to be nowhere near it! I was chatting to someone on the Hardway jetty after lunch who'd cancelled a weekend club meet in Bembridge! Turned out to be a lovely day. I hope they manage better than this all season ... notice how they never apologise for getting it wrong ... I listened to the BBC guy this morning asking if we'd enjoyed yesterday's sunshine when last week they had Sunday down for the end of the world!

We don't trust 'em, they seem to be erring on the side of caution in a big way. The sea state forecast (which is the one that interests me!) usually, but not always, overstates it. Before we went out on Saturday we walked to the beach to take a look at the 'Moderate to Rough' waves - they were clearly 'Moderate' only so we went out.

I'd prefer them to overestimate bad weather than underestimate it but it does mean that we check any webcams we can before setting out to travel the hour to the marina in case it's a wasted trip.

Can see sense in using webcam - just need a webcam in Brightlingsea to save me driving an hour from Norfolk! Just worry what will happen when I think they have overestimated it, go out and find they haven't a couple of hours later!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Sorry, just realised that you went out Saturday and I went out Sunday - could be why we didn't see each other!?

Having said that, the initial forecast for Sunday wasn't brilliant, but the actual weather turned out much better.

I'm lucky that I only live about 15 minutes from the harbour and a quick gaze out to sea before I went to the boat showed that the "moderate" sea was nothing like that, hence the decision to go out.

Even so, there was still a distinct lack of boats out, with only 4 boats in the lock when I returned and one of those was a commercial fishing boat!
