Unfortunately the minority have spoiled it for the majority. No Mooring signs are appearing down stream of Ashmount as I write. By order of the Fishing Club and backed by Oxford University the landowners.
Why? Because they are fed up with things like this...

Is it definitely boaters? Not people accessing from land? Sad if the former.

Without a doubt it was Boaters I actually saw them as I drove along the bank on my Gator. They looked a little worried probably assuming I was the Farmer and they would either be moved on or charged a mooring fee.

Sad fact of modern life, I'm afraid.
Yesterday I walked along Gruinard Beach where the night before I had "binoculared" three separate sets of campers with fires burning. No problem, they were quiet and left the fires properly out and neat - but they also left several bin bags and supermarket bags behind.
I can never understand why people can "carry stuff in to a place, but can't be bothered to carry it back out" - after all, it'll be lighter and more compact when it's empty/used.

I always thought it was no mooring downstream of Ashmount? I'm sure there were signs stating this some years ago.
There were a few right down the bottom end. They had been put up without the late John Phipps consent. He quite liked boats stopping as he quite often got offered a jar ;)
They didn't encourage boaters but didn't forbid them either.
