Was talking to some sailing mates about this incident this morning. Apparently the delivery skipper has been know to screw it up badly before. They probably do have enough water because they were headed for Australia and are just using "no water" as an excuse for getting immediate attention. The skipper also decided to try motoring the rest of the way when he knows full well that they only have enough diesel for a few hundred miles, and that's why they're very low on diesel.
Local opinion is "Dick-heads" wasting resources in an ill-prepared and un-seaworthy boat.
Before I get slagged off, I hope they survive because there are definitely a few more news-worthy headlines brewing with that Darwin-Award-Candidate of a delivery skipper.
How are they managing to contact the wife back in SA if they were demasted ,lost use of their radio and are 1200 km out at sea? Vodacom must have good coverage.
