I had a word in someones ear and it's all off now.

Actually quite p#ssed off that the local politicos seem to be saying it is due to "pressure" and "complaints" from boat owners who do not want to pay more tax (which is also true!), rather than saying something like, "we listened to folk who made submissions, then looked at the figures again and realised that Jersey PLC would make more Tax money overall if we left the fuel prices as they are, plus it would help the Marine Tourism and the Marine Industry in general...... rather than putting a bullet in it's head".

Still cheaper in Guernsey though. Although they have a tendency to p#ss in the fuel over there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's Official,

Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur has decided to step back from the proposal after consultation responses on the possibility of charging duty on 'red diesel' proved overwhelmingly negative.

Of the 104 responses to the suggestion, 101 opposed the extra duty on fuel for pleasure boats.

The head of the British Marine Federation, Howard Pridding (pictured), said the suggestion - which would mean a 70% increase in the price of red diesel - would force visiting yachts to go to other places and would mean that some Islanders would have to give up boating altogether.

He visited Jersey to speak to politicians three weeks ago, and told the JEP that the States should be investing in a growing maritime industry, not strangling it with tax. 'You should be promoting Jersey as a great place for boating visitors,' said Mr Pridding.

I'm glad Jersey has apparently seen the light. Yachtsmen from outside the islands find it difficult to distinguish between the islands' different administrations, and I don't think it would ultimately have been to Guernsey's advantage to have had a hugely lower marine fuel price.
I am content that our prices are lower (and significantly so in bulk) and will remain so, even if our crazy Treasury Minister introduces a Sales Tax.

I am so glad for you guys pheew what a relief now people will not be put off going to jersey by increased fuel costs and will after visiting Guernsey realise that it is much better here.
