No diesel in town.....

Makes me wonder if I will find any diesel left in my tank when I come over in May. I heard that several boats had their tanks syphoned last year while in a boat yard.

Being bankrupt is not pain free, suppliers tend to want cash up front. I would have severe doubts about offering credit to anyone in Greece. I am quite cautious about what I pay up front here in Portugal, as my ex landlord has found.

Been round the town (Messolonghi) today trying to buy 20 litres of diesel. None to be had (despite cycling miles to visit various petrol stations). Is this the begining of the end? Or just a late delivery? Anyone else come across a similar problem?
Did you try the BP garage on the road out to the NE? (to Chaliki).

I'd suspect a delayed delivery, due to poor stock control rather than anything more sinister.

Still we all have sails ;-)

Noticed that sunflower oil is a lot cheaper than diesel. For me it would not be interesting, for others, it might be the time to convert to vegetable oil. Anyone know if for instance a Perkins 4108 m could be converted easily ? Sure would not have diesel bug.:D

Not an expert by any means, but would have thought it would gum up under the massive pressure. I do believe that the people who DO use it add some kind of additive?
Fair winds

I believe that many people add veggy oil to their diesel fuel up to quite high proprtions compared to pump fuel.

Just checked on another forum where several users run there vehicles on veggie mix. The split seems to run from 20% to 100% with the most common being 50%. The 100% was for engines which were warmed up, and recomended a 50% mix for starting. They did suggest a filter change might be needed after the first mix as veggie oil gets all the **** out for you. Opinion was varied on whether or not consumption was more or less on veggie mix. Used oil is cheaper than new but needs filtered before adding to the tank. Rapeseed seemed popular but no one seems to have used extra virgin olive.
