Dear All

I am wondering about fitting an AIS receiver on a power-challenged boat.

The Nasa AIS ‘radar’ would be ideal as it has a low power consumption. But my question is, does it also provide an NMEA output, so that it could occasionally be integrated with a PC-based plotter ? (To save power I anticipate the PC being off for most of the time in open water) I could not find this information on the nasa website.

Thanks

There was some discussion on the shipploter forum on how to modify the display model to give some form of output.

The AIS engine does give a NMEA output but no display only by using a PC with the shipplotter software.

It puts out NMEA and is designed to send this to a plotter or PC.

[/ QUOTE ]The original question was about the AIS "Radar" (the unit with a display screen), are you talking about the AIS "engine"?

Thanks all - makes the decision harder!
