Further to my recent post on trying to find a V2.0 NMEA output I found the following website and download
NMEA coverter

Now this looks exactly what I was after so I took a chance and downloaded it. The download seemed to come through OK but I'm dammed if I can work out how to make the thing work. I realise that this is just me being a computer trogolodyte and would appreciate any advice the forum might be able to offer.

Many thanks, as always in, advance.

Chas

Chas,

A lot of the files in the download are surplus to your requirements (assuming you don't want to modify the programme). Note that it's written for WinCE - I presume you want to install it on XP. May or may not work.

When you unzip the downloaded file, there is a sub directory called 'Cab'. I *think* all you need are the GpsVirtualDriver.inf, and the GpsVirtualDriver.dll.

It may install if you double-click the .inf file, otherwise to install the driver (in XP) I *think* you need to go to:

Control Panel --> Add Hardware
[Next] (and windows searches for hardware)
Choose "Yes I have already connected the hardware"
[Next]
"Add new hardware device" (At the bottom of the list)
Choose "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)"
[Next]
"Show all devices"
[Next]
Click on [Have a Disk]
then [Browse], and navigate through to the directory with the .inf file in, then press OK and install

Note that this is a development example, and comes without 'un-install', etc. so you might be in for an interesting time if you ever want to get rid of it. That's why I haven't tried installing it on my XP PC.

It's not clear from the write-up whether the registry changes described are made automatically, or if they have to be done manually. I'd try without first - oh, and you'd be well advised to back up the registry (and take a system restore point if XP) before you start.

Now Brendan will be along to tell you how to do it with one click /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good luck!

Chas,
Sorry to be a wet blanket but I doubt that this'll fix your problem even if you get it running on your PC. In your original post you said that you thought the issue was between NMEA V2.0 and 2.2. The software you are looking at converts V2.3 to 2.0 - the difference being an extra field (the mode field) in some sentences in V2.3. This field is not present in V2.0 or V2.2 - so I don't think this gadget will do anything for you.
