Is it me or has Nitromors changed? Been trying to remove some old varnish with Nitromors and it’s hardly touching it, It used to start bubbling as soon as it was applied but now even after two applications there are large areas where it hasn’t even affected it.
Has anyone found something better that I can use?

I think it's dichloromethane that is strictly professional use only now - leaving the rest of us with rubbish that hardly works.

I’ve been trying to clean old, chipped and pitted paint off my prop. I’ve Tried Nitromors, Strippit, caustic-soda gel. Wrapped in tinfoil for hours none of them even softened the surface. What the paint is I don’t know. Today I’m resorting to a flap disk on an angle grinder.

Yes, that's it. In theory strippers containing dichloromethane are banned worldwide but plenty are available. You can buy it as Starchem Synstrip but you may have to pretend to be a professional.

Rather than a flap disk, these are superb at removing paint from bronze props. 2 minutes and job done.

I agree re Nitromors, it has gone the way of hammerite paint. I have had some good success with Paint Panther paint and varnish stripper which I have found to be the best of the current crop. Bear in mind the reaction of these strippers is very affected by the ambient temperature. If it is cold and dull it will be like trying to nail jelly to a wall.
