My 20-year old Nitech 2500H handlamp is not charging properly from AC mains and just gets dimmer and dimmer when used.

I don't know yet whether the battery will take a charge from DC as the DC charging cord is on the boat and I'll not be there before Friday.

So, I don't know if it is the battery itself that is faulty, or the bulb, or only the integral AC charger, or the switch.

I tried to contact them via their website (Contact/sales) asking for a quote for a new one, or where I could buy one, here in Spain or in the UK, and have not received a reply in 3 days. Phoning them would be expensive, that's why I tried their website contact link.

Are they still in business ???

Does anyone know where I could buy a replacement handlamp, or a similar lamp, for less than an arm and a leg ???

If it lights up at all, it can't be the bulb or the switch. The charger is integral with the battery, so it looks like a replacement battery is needed. I seem to recall they're not cheap, you might be better investing in a decent LED torch.

What you say makes sense, so either a new battery from Nitech, if I can get them to communicate, or research a decent LED torch that will be visible from a distance, can be used to illuminate sails in a collision avoidance situation, etc.

Thanks,

Bulbs can get dimmer, a lot dimmer, if tungsten from the filament deposits on the inside of the glass. I have had car bulbs which were almost wholly obscured in this way. However, if it gets dimmer and dimmer I'll bet "dud battery".

Battery doesn't seem dud -- it's been on DC charge for 2 hours and seems to be getting brighter. Could just be the AC charger is not working.

Nitech have just replied to my enquiry -- will order a new torch this evening when at home again.
