Hi,

on my 1988 Nimbus 2600 with a Volvo Penta TAMD 31A, I tried to change the secondary fuel filter, and failed. It is placed so deep in the bilge that it is not possible to unscrew it at all.

Does anyone here have the same boat with the same motor, and some experience in replacing the filter? Are any special tools needed, or do I need to take off a part to gain access?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, it's in a tight place sure enough.
I use an adjustable steel banded oil filter strap wrench.
Halfords, not expensive.
It is a matter of lying face down on the engine and reaching down kinda blind.
The filter remover has a short handle.
I nip it up tight as possible and just about get a tad of movement.
Then re-position and so on.
Tiss a bind but do able without removing any other bits.

Any Nimbus 26/27 or Volvo TAMD30 or 31 snags , pop em on here or PM me.
Been fighting My 'Green Thing' for 6 years!!!!

yep i agree

also got a 88 nimbus 2600 which i have restored to as new and agree with last comments the filter is a right Bu+++r to get out

Thanks for your response.
Can you maybe tell me if I am right in the assumption that a plugged fuel filter can be the reason for very low idle RPM?

Thanks.

Not normally.
A blocked/plugged fuel filter will have more of an effect when you try to apply more revs.

IE -- the engine will struggle to gain revs.

If the engine is idling erratically it would suggest that air is present in the system.
Have you checked the Primary filter.
There should be one before the one on the engine.
Attached to the bulkhead in the engine bay with a renewable paper element type filter.
The housing should have a glass bowl with a screw off lid.
