Any recommendations for night vision scopes good for pot spotting?

I have a night scope but cannot see how it can be used for pot spotting.
Even going along at say 10 knots, its not practicable to keep it to your eyes all the time but unless you do, there is no hope of spotting a pot.
Maybe useful probing up harbours and estuaries for unlit buoys etc.
I would like to learn how others use them.
