Nigel Luther includes a line at the end of his recent threads advertising as liaison officer for visiting forumites. Strangely, this seems to have been ignored.

The membership of these forums is indeed very widespread, and the concept of a stranger coming into a new area, being able to ask somebody local about that area and possibly to be able to extend the friendship and assistance that are starting to be keywords bwetween forumites would seem to be an excellent scheme.

Perhaps YBW could host a members only database where we can search an area and find volunteers as Harbour Liaison?

I've waved at you and the missus in a harbour /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've even liased with you once or twice. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think the idea is allready working to some extent.I have had people ask me questions about South Wales and Smiffy has offered me some help and advice as I hope to visit the Taw /Torridge Estuary next Summer.

Re: Nigel has borrowed a good idea!

Networks of local support have long been established by the Little Ship Club (Honorary Port Officers) and the Cruising Association (Honorary Local Representatives).

Nigel's castles in the air unfortunately have a habit of collapsing - where's the so-called Small Boat Club now? Suspended because of a 'problem' with our mentors, IPC.

We're still waiting for an explanation, let alone any resolution. Heaven help those who gambled in his South (should that be Baltic?) Sea Bubble.

Agree this is worth commenting on /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but not sure that it needs to be formalised except for the benefit of shy forumites since it seems to work already. Although no expert, I've certainly corresponded with several posters (from as far away as Iceland - hi Thrall) about my local area.

Agree that ad hoc arrangements such as this are already happening, but it is quite difficult to establish who knows a particular area, and whether they would be willing to assist a visiter

Re: Nigel has borrowed a good idea!

SBC is now up and running well, hidden from people like you-- for a very good reason which you have now confirmed.

I have the feeling that you will be a long time in getting an explanation...............Actually, what on earth makes you think that you are entitled to one?

Going back to helping visiting yotties, or mobo jockeys for that matter, I would always give a hand if I was able to. Everybody is welcome in my backyard..............except maybe you of course, but then, you might change your ways?

Naaaaaaa, probably not /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whenever I have wanted info on an area/topic, I find a question posted here, or maybe on R2R, brings plenty of advice... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
