Was at Nieuwpoort the other day for an overnight stop. Went to the KYCN as usual, tied up OK at the fuel berth (we got there late), but the scene ashore was a mess. There are huge works going on, landscaping, diggers and scrapers charging around, mud everywhere which was the worst bit. Clubhouse still fine (when you get to it!) but ablution block definitely showing its age, showers not working properly etc.
And 50 new berths being built just N of the fuel berth.
All a bit of a mess and perhaps best avoided for a few weeks until it's finished!

I've always found the WSKLuM [Begium Air Force] club very welcoming and convenient.
Bit of a hike into town but handy for the coast tram and they will hire you bikes.

Big vote for the Air Force Club restaurant - service and food excellent. Also Supermarket within stumbling distance.

A small cautionary tale re the restaurant.
On my first visit I was trying to learn Dutch and so ordered in Dutch. We were then ignored for ages.
Eventually a Belgian at the next table told us that the waiter was a French speaker [Walloon?] and thought we were Flemish, so was going to make us wait. Best go and explain you are Brits.

By the way the club is a great place for a scrub. Travel hoist out, use of washer and back in in an hour for a fraction of UK rates.

Sounds like a load of bollocks to me.
Know the cub secretary (Max Debaere - who hires/fires most people who work there) personally - he would never put up with this.
Been there many times - never happened to me.

Urban myth?

And before a Brit gets mistaken for a Flemish native speaker...

No need for the offensive language.
I was just trying to relate an amusing anecdote, not trying to impune anyones honour.
I have detected a certain amount of "banter" between the Flemish & French speakers.
As I said, I've always found the club very welcoming.
