This is for perkins 4108 owners with the TMP gearbox. Until now, there has been cathodic protection for the gear casing in the form of two zinc raw water stub connectors which need to be monitored closely in order to avoid flooding if a hose falls off... The main culprit is copper plumbing in the raw water system in the form of link pipes and joints for rubber hoses.
TMP no longer supply these stubs and now supply plastic substitutes (not cheap!) I have removed the copper work nearest to the gearbox, the next copper is on the heat exchanger about a foot away. Is that far enough, or do I need to remove the long output pipe from the heat exchanger to the exhaust elbow/bell as well?
Would it be advisable to add an anode, say to the water jacket drain plug?
Surely I am not the first to enter this quagmire. Your comments/experience please.

Must investigate mine!! I thought that just separating the copper pipe from the box with the rubber elbows was sufficient. I have just bought 2 new elbows which I planned to fit as the old ones look perished. Hopefully I will not find a pile of white powder instead of the stub connector?!
