I have just heard that Nicolson-Hughes is closing down at the end of this week. Murray is heading north to run the sail loft for Owen Sails in Oban and Karen will continue at Rosneath as Struan Marine Covers. I have had all my sail making and repair work done by N-H for thirty years now and I'll be very sorry to see them go. The new mainsail they made for me last year is a thing of beauty and good for an extra knot and significantly less heel in any reach.

By my reckoning that leaves only Saturn at Largs and Leitch at Tarbert (if they are still going) actually making sails near the Clyde. Apparently Owen Sails will be picking from Rhu and Rosneath, so I expect I'll go with them from now on.

Shame. New NH sails made a huge difference to my shipman28 many years ago. I now need a company that gives pensioners a discount, otherwise we carry on with the 'burst mattress'.
