I've had the second one "permanently borrowed" this season...does anyone have any bright ideas to avoid this expensive annoyance other than chaining the thing to a bollard or painting it an attrocious yellow colour?

Padlocks, chains, trade-up to a hydraulic transom-mounted job, wire it to the mains (and remember to wear rubber soled deckshoes youself)? Dunno really. Police no help, too busy catching people speeding on deserted roads.

Which marina by the way?

Byron on this BB has one for sale, a manual one (as in, not transom-mounted hydraulic) in aluminium I think, so he may be able to help you out with a replacement

The boat is in Pollenca...I doubt that it was deliberate theft...probably a boat using a visitors berth borrowed it and forgot to put it back...c'est la vie...thanks anyway

Pollenca is a bit open-to-public if I recall, as in, anyone can just walk off the street and wander along the pontoons? Oh well, maybe it's like bikes in Cambridge, you just take someone else's pasarelle
