Nick is seeking 5 day forecast for the buoy HOTEL.
I'm a doofus and can't find such info. I found the NOAA doo dah stuff but no 5 day forecast so need one of you pros to get on the case.
Wonder if any of you can and if so, go to his site, www.bigoceans.com and send a free sms in the link bar there.
I feel bad cos I think the info I sent was crap and all the wrong wind direction and whatnot.
This post has been edited cos I initially called the buoy HELLO cos I am not very clever.

Still do not know where that buoy is - a lat and long would be good - which ocean might be a start

That buoy is adrift but still transmitting.

Latest data:

1200 hrs gmt buoy position 34.88N 62.71w wind 310 speed 16.9 gusts to 20kts veering and reducing.

I know. What I am looking for is somebody able to find a five day forecast for the buoy and fwd it to Nick via his site and free sms service.
As a virtual beginner in this nautical world, I thought there might be somebody here in the know who could find the forecast beyond the noaa information, which doesn't have a 5 day forecast, maybe because the buoy is 'adrift' - who knows. Quite possibly there is a nearby buoy that somebody with experience of this could have looked at and found a 5 day forecast for.

I have sent Nick the weather forecast for the next 48 hours and also told him that the buoy HOTEL is drifting 451 nautical miles ESE of its correct location ans will be of very little use to him!

I had to send three texts as getting all the required information into 150 characters proved very tricky indeed.

He is suffering the effects of a weak 'low' pressure (1005mB) out in mid-Atlantic and a weak high sitting south of him. This is causing him to have very little wind and coupled with his lack of diesel he isn't really moving anywhere.

All he can do is to just sit it out and wait for the southerly breeze to kick in in about 60 hours time or Tuesday morning.

You do not get a 5 day forecast from a buoy. The data is fed into a series of models for assessment of the overall weather picture, and then the models run for a weather forecast. If you are really lucky you then get somebody like herb to use his expertise and experiance or you pay a centre to look at that computer forecast to ensure the computer has not achieved 4+4=9.

Hiya Maria - long time no speak . . . . . /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I helped Nick with International flag symbols and also about barometers before he sailed from Southampton and have been following his progress daily.

Talbot is absolutely correct regarding the 5-day forecast and having found out about the drifting of buoy HOTEL, I forwarded this information immediately.

The immediate forecast I sent was extrapolated from the text in:

http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/data/forecasts/marine/high_seas/north_atlantic.txt

The 48 hour weather forecast I sent him was based on the charts published in the following link:

ps: I regularly read all your Blogs too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks to both you and Talbot for the info. I'm always learning something new from folks like you.

Ha ha. My blog! My only friend this year! Without it I'd go stir crazy.
