Does anyone have any experience of re-masting a Nicholson 38.

I like the ability to reef from the wheelhouse, but would prefer not to lose sail area through in-mast.

I understand that at least one has been re-masted with a longer mast (6 ft or so).

I have a quote for new masts with in-mast furling but it will mean losing the keel stepping and require a support below. Whilst I am happy with that it would be useful to hear the experience of any who have undergone this before.

many thanks

Like you, I would not like loosing the keel stepping. There are in-boom reefing systems as well, maybe that is a solution? Having said that, we are all aware of the problems with proper sail shape with any kind of roller reefing, including in-mast, though in-mast is seemingly the best solution in this respect. Mind the increased weight in the mast though.
cheers
