Zwartsluis, mid-Holland. Not an everyday occurrence but witnessed this morning a 30 million euro yacht being transported on a barge (with a tug at each end) on it’s way to Harlingen to have it’s mast fitted.

Spoke with two guys who were watching the approx 200m ensemble go through a lift bridge. Both guys I estimate late twenties, one English, one Aussie (deck-hand and boatswain respectively).

They’ll crew during six-week sea trials followed by trip to Caribbean via Canaries then a five-year world cruise.

‘Sounds like a crap job’ I tell them.
‘Mmmm’ they grin!
‘Lot of responsibility too’ I add
‘We’ll give it a go’

Boat built for a Swedish businessman apparently – English guy reckons the annual running costs will be roughly 10% of the purchase price.

Aplogies - I knew you'd ask but was walking the dog and caught on the wrong side of the lift bridge without camera. It just goes to show that you should always carry photographic equipment when taking dog for a poo.
