We've been off for some time building Hosanna's replacement, and she is now in usable state and we are living afloat once again.
For a time we lived aboard her while she was still in the hangar, but now we have the loo, the bath and a galley that works.
Look forward to seeing old friends again when the new boat, Faraway, finally leaves Lowestoft.
Lowestoft is a good place for amateur builders/converters with a good hangar complete with 10 ton and 2 ton overhead travelling cranes, but with antediluvian sanitary arrangements. Plenty of obliging small firms around of varying degrees of expertise.
 
Soon, we hope. She's a big change.After over 20 years in an 87 footer with three masts, we decided that at 80 next birthday, we would have to face up to motor boating. The truth is that 20 years ago we sailed 90% and motored 10%, but in our last full year we cruised 2000 miles but motored 80% It just didn;t seem likely that energy would improve any. Also we came down to 12 metres. We had intended to settle on 13 but Brusels indicated many advantages to cutting out the 13th metre. So do bureaucrats rule our lives. Don't let me get carried away on that path.
So, she's not a handsome boat. More practical than beautiful, but designed absolutely as a very mobile live-aboard vehicle. This coming year wiill be our 32nd live-aboard year.
Anyone for the Danube again?

Just finished reading your Book Sell up and Sail (2005).
just what we needed.
Sell up and Sail is exactly what we are doing, our completion date is the 12th October 07.
We have been doing our research/planning for the last year and cant wait to go.
We are off to greece to start our new life/adventure.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new boat. We learnt a lot from your book, when we sold up and sailed in 2004. Please drop me a PM if or when you pass our part of the world!

Great to have you back again in this forum. Looking very much forward to hear about your future exploits.

In addition, I must inform you that there are probably a majority of liveaboards here in the eastern Med, me included, that consider your book "Sell Up And Sail" as the ultimate reference book on how to do this. You were the trigger for a lot of life changing decisions, and we are forever in your debt for the joy of having done it.

Bill, Great to hear from you again. I thought you had got yourself permanently lost up some ditch in France.

It seems a lifetime ago that we met at the Royal Cinque Ports YC. We took your and Laurel's advice and headed out again in Sentinel, at present in Chicago. After reading "Backdoor to Byzantium" I don't think we are quite ready for the Danube!

Looking forward to seeing those pics. Its hard to imagine you in a boat just 12m long.
 
Welcome back to the forum and congratulations on being afloat again. I'm addicted to your excellent books. My 79-year-old brother in Nelson BC could use a copy of Sail into the Sunset. But The Nautical Mind in Toronto tells me it's out of print. So perhaps I'll make a photocopy from the one I bought some years ago and send it to him. Please tell your publishers that by neglecting to reprint it they are encouraging me to break the law. And please tell me how much royalty I should pay you and where to send it.
