Nice pastic covers for cockpit displays

I have a question - My Echo-Pilot cockpit displays have nice semi-soft plastic white covers to go over them when not in use. After a while they developed a 'sticky' mottled speckled appearance that was like someone had sprayed greyish contact glue on them. It appears that the sun has affected the outer surface causing this.
To get it off was near impossible ......

Has anyone else this problem and what to use to clean the covers up ???

I had a similar problem a few years ago. Purchased new ones from the makers, they were not expensive. If yours have gone sticky quickly maybe they would provide them free?

The Lass - good heart !! - scrubbed them for ages and got most off by sheer determination.

I was not prepared to put any solvent etc. near them for fear of losing even that cover !!

But this happened in first year of use ...... its a while on now and well past any dealer / m-facturer replacement.

Another thing that niggles me with them ...... if you leave 'em on for a while - they are buggers to get off again !!! My previous had a pair of NASA displays ...... I used to swear regularly at those ..... tried a little lub around them ... vaseline etc. Was ok for a while - then .....

I always wondered why they couldn't have moulded a small 'knob / hold' on one side to let you pull it of easier.

It's caused by plasticizer ( together with most of the "fantastic") leaking out of the plastic, I've been told. Nothing stops the process. I've had limited success by removing the sticky stuff with WD40 -most people don't realize WD40 is an excellent glue remover - and then spraying it with clear acrylic varnish.
