Nice day in the Moray Firth 29/12/13

Nice pics, isn't that another forumites boat in no 4, the one with the black radar arch?

Winter boating can be great.

Nice pic's John and welcome to this madhouse someone calls a forum ...

Planned to get up there myself today, but had to do some work ... been raining all day today here, but noticed weather forecast was for still and dry up there so envy you ..

You managed to do the oil change yet ??

All... please Welcome John .... another Snazi 39 owner... berthed next to Navigator in Inverness Marina as LJS quite correctly identified ... nice to see her safe after the windy weather we've had .. Thanks!!

Thanks, I gave Navigator a quick check over while I was there, no problems and all ropes were good. I did the oil change a few weekends back, also drained and flushed the coolant. I sent oil samples back to Finnings for SOS and both came back "A" with no problems, and that was a surprise as the old oil was as black as coal. New single grade 30 seems a lot better, much quieter and engines seem to pull better. I also pulled the impellers and changed, replaced all the engine anodes etc etc. Still a few things to do but plan is to phase it over the winter and get a few trips in when the WX is good.

Next biggy is remove the aftercoolers and clean, apparently the grey smoke at start up is a sign they are a bit gunged, also the rubber boot that connects the cooler to the turbo on the port side is a bit expanded, according to the Finnings man its a sure sign they need doing.

See you next time

Thanks John, as you know, the people in here love to see pictures of work being carried out (learn more from that), so do take a couple of snaps when you do the maintenance work and share / ask questions ... some great engine people in here who will be familiar with your purring CAT's ... so you will pick up some good advise in here.... My engine work will start soon and promised to post on here as well, but have had other thing to attend to over December ....

Looks a lovely day - I was up Bennachie wishing I was over in Inverness!
David is doing a good job looking after the boats, I got a call telling me the windscreen cover had blown off recently - one more little job to do.

Cheers Rich

So looking down onto our steading then .... :) ...

David is a great guy and one of the best marina managers we could have wished for!! ... that will be your port side lower fastener as I mentioned to you earlier this year ... should be easy to fix (famous last words...)!!

Hi and welcome to the forums, thro I don't usually come to the motorboat forum often, just saw the reference to the Moray Firth which tempted me to venture in!
In the first photo, is that a Garmin 750, and if so where did you source the pod?

Thanks.

congrats on your good start on this forum,
boating pics thats what we all like
you're in good company, in a nice area,
nothing can go wrong for you in 2014 :)

best !

Great photos....
But i can assure you the weather was no where as flat as that a few mile further out :)

How did you get the photos up a thumbnails, i have not managed to get that bit right yet....

Hi Trop Cher, its a Garmin 4008 and the pod has "NavPod" stamped on it, it was on the boat when I got it. I think its made by the Scan Strut people. I also have to point out the poor Intellian positioning was also part of the boat when I bought it, works OK but I can't get ITV,

Robg71, I will pm you the code I used for the thumbnails, I have the Topaz working out there at the moment at Claymore with lots of WOW, glad to be onshore this year :)

John

Have been caught in some nasty weather in the N sea before - I work on survey vessels - similar size or smaller than Skandi Arctic - never a nice experience!
Glad you are all home safe
