I am sure that I am not the only one who does a bit of browsing / day dreaming on the web.

Ocassionally I see something that looks nice / interesting (at a fair enough asking price), even if not really suitable for me (I am not even looking to sell!) - but still gets me thinking, "that would be of interest if I was after something like that".

Seen this for sale for a little while. £7,750.

Invicta 26

Anyone else seen anything that at least looks interesting / nice? (obviously I appreciate that not all adverts are entirely accurate!)

I will leave someone else to start the sister thread: "he wants HOW MUCH?.....for THAT??!!"

David,

browsing for yachts has turned into pretty much a full time job for me! I'm trying to cut down, but it is very hard to do.

Favourite thing is to go to Yachtworld, type in 30ft+ and around £7,500 (if I work my a**e off in the next couple of years, this will be just about what I can afford!) If I'm willing to buy in USA, its pretty suprising seeing what you can get!

I don't intend to return to the UK after having bought my boat, so VAT doesn't unduly worry me!

And I agree, that Invicta is a sweet boat, and for this country, seems pretty well priced.

I heard your call.
Just to confound you, I reckon any tidy, well equipped boat of more than about 23 feet is worth that sort of money. I looked at the link and that looks like very well-loved boat. Interestingly, to me, it mentions that many Invictas were moulded by Fi-Craft who built the Valiant 18 that I had previously.
That was pretty solid build and I would think the Invicta is even sturdier. I don't sail on the sea, but if circumstances were different and I was in a passage-making situation a keel boat like that would be more attractive than a modern lightweight, AWB. In fact I nearly bought a Folk-boat when I last changed. A friend has a new folkboat in which he does very well in the Solent series.
The only thing I don't much like is the coach-roof which is neither stylish nor classical. A bit in-betweeny.
It seems the major draw-back is that you have to start smoking a pipe.

I kinda regret not getting something like this a few years back for an extended voyage / holiday, on a shoestring (as far as these things can be!), instead I travelled by...........jumbo jet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Being an evil git, I daren't post the ones I fancy, as I want them to still be on the market in the dim and distant future when I've sold mine (even though I've not even got it on the market yet!)... Evil thought... maybe I should post my own under a pseudonym. Hehehe.

Agreed though, it's a great way to waste my time, but I love doing it. I find Boatshed best because it's got the most pics. The Dutch site Yachtfocus has some decent prices also.

Jem.

We bought a Pearson Vanguard (33') in the US in 1989 and cruised full time for three years. We sold her in the USVI three years later for what we paid. These seaworthy, sturdy boats, not unlike a Nich 32, can still be had for between £5,000 and £10,000:

Mine, Adriana, features in the cruising resources section of my website. If you are into heavy displacement MAB's I can highly recommend this type.

Do you think that could be a modified West Kirby Hilbre:

The name is quite a coincidence, although the 'hilbrae' has a lot more superstructure.

I would think having been Hull Marina would devalue the boat.
Looks well-loved with plenty of gear though. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That Invicta does look rather attractive. I like the interior of the new AWBs, but I like the more traditional lines of the older yacht, like this one. I not a fan of the beaminess of the AWBs but prefer the sleakness of the older yachts.

Yeah quite a few interesting boats. Most of them in the States, either you go for a 30-32ft which is in pretty much sailaway condition.

Or you take the plunge for a 32ft+ which needs a little TLC. If its going to be my long term home, I'm really looking for the biggest I can realistically afford, and tidy it up as I go.

Quite a few in N California, a convenient hopping off point for the Hawiian Islands

My God - that really make me sick.
I have just finished one from a hull and deck moulding and it cost close to £40k, excluding my time !
There is no justice - except that she sails beautifully - and everything is new - and I love her !

That was my father in-laws boat untill a couple of weeks ago...he tried to sell it for a year.....put it on ebay and got 2k for it....

he is very sad.....he put a huge amount of work into it....he is a proffestional joiner so the wood work was well up to scratch.
