Nic 26

Re: Nic 26 association.

NDC do you have one? I think the 32 association would accept us but I know of no ne for the 26.

Colmce How does the contessa association relate to Nicholsons?

Re: Nic 26 association.

Me too. Now there are three of us. The 32 Assoc won't have us by the way. I've asked before. Nic 26 owners plough a lonely furrow.
John
ps yours is a baby. Mine dates from 67.

Re: Nic 26 association.

Snark is 40 this year, does this make her the grand dam of the class? Surely not as I've been led to believe she was the last fitted out by C&N....if so what happened to the rest and where are they?

Re: Nic 26 association.

I believe there is one in Walton too. And someone mentioned one on the Dart, but that was years ago.

Re: Nic 26 association.

Well I have bought a 1970 model last season needs a little work but what great lines she has. Can't wait to get her afloat to bring her back to her new home berth. Can anyone tell me how she is likely to sail as I didnt have the benefit of a sailing trial?

Re: Nic 26 association.

I find her very easy to sail single handed. My main has two slab reefing points and a roller genoa. Under full sail she points extreemly well, however the roller reefing set up makes her sailing performance under shortened sail less satisfying. My Spinnaker is smaller than the originsal sail plan dictates and I've only had it up twice in over ten years. I'm not a racing man. Polling out the genoa and with a preventer on the main, I've never found the downwind performance lacking. Balance the sails on a reach and she'll look after herself for long periods. Mine normally carries a bit of weather helm but not a lot.

She is very sea kindly.

Why not join us in Yarmouth in June? Whatever you do, please let us know which one you have and send us a picture. The 26 was never a high volume production boat and we're trying to locate as many as possible.

Re: Nic 26 association.

My N26 is a 1970 Burnes.
Layout is 2 saloon berths, separate heads compartment midships, 2 forward berths.

Re: Nic 26 association.

Very wrong, the Nic has a much deeper keel, full standing headroom and bigger "windows". I think they sail better too, however I'd not denigrate the Contessa which was one of the more successful "folkboat clones" in terms of both numbers and IMHO the best. Charles Nicholson wouldn't have used anyone else's hull lines...it wouldn't have been cricket!
